London 2012: Nigeria Picks Loughborough University For Camping


Determined to ensure Nigeria athletes’ hits it big at the London 2012 Olympic Games, the Nigeria Olympic Committee, NOC, has selected one of the best training camps for Team Nigeria.
Team Nigeria would use the Loughborough University as preparation camp prior to the London 2012 Olympic Games.
President of the NOC, Engineer Sani Ndanusa who announced this after the executive meeting of the NOC held weekend at the ANOCA Headquarters in Abuja said that the camp site rates among the best with its world class facilities and is the country's leading University for sport.
Team Great Britain is also expected to use the state of the art facilities to prepare for the Games. The University has been the base for preparation for British Olympians.
The NOC President who is also the President of Nigeria Tennis Federation said that the welfare of athletes was instrumental to getting the camp for Team Nigeria.
"Our number one priority is to ensure that Nigerian athletes have the best possible preparation environment. We are confident that Loughborough University's excellence in the field of sport will be of huge benefit to Team Nigeria’s aspiration of performing creditably at the Games".
Besides Nigeria and Great Britain, Loughborough University would also host the Japanese Olympic team prior to the 2012 Olympic Games.  The co-location of major teams would create a unique environment, with Loughborough likely to have the highest concentration of Olympic activity.
